Rotary continuing literacy drive

The Rotary Club of Barbados West is still pursuing its target of improving literacy in the country. President Gale Reeves shared that goal yesterday as the club unpacked hundreds of boxes that were filled with thousands of books. The books will be distributed to schools as part of the club’s ongoing literacy programme.

“We started in September for International Literacy Day and donated to 30 primary and secondary schools and the paediatric department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. During that time we donated 6 000 books.

“By the time we are finished, we’ll be donating approximately 10 000 books to our primary and secondary schools,” Reeves said. She made those comments at Best of Barbados’ Warehouse in Welches, St Thomas. Reeves said the fiction books which they received as a donation were all new. (TG)
