The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of our daily lives and restricted many non-profit organizations’ abilities to serve their communities. Thanks to the generosity of Scotiabank employees three (3) organisations – Variety, The Children’s Charity, the Rotary Club of Barbados West (RCOBW) and the Barbados Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) have received support to continue their important work.
“This pandemic has impacted all of us – our families, friends, colleagues and every community we serve. Now more than ever, it is critical for us to come together to support our communities, and especially our most vulnerable. Our employees have generously stepped forward to give back to the communities in which we live and work,” said David Parks, Managing Director, Caribbean East, Scotiabank. “I commend them for their support of these invaluable community organizations and the critical relief services they provide for those in need. Through their donations, we’ve been able to donate a total of $20,000 to these charities and we have some more donations to make in the coming weeks,” he continued.
The funds donated to Variety and the YMCA will be used towards helping providing food and essential supplies to children and their families negatively impacted by COVID-19. “2020 has been a challenging year for everyone. Charities, among other organizations, have been adversely affected by the pandemic and its economic effects. Variety relies heavily on donations to service the thousands of children we serve annually.
We thank Scotiabank for this very kind donation to our causes and programmes as we continue to strive to make positive impacts on the lives of Barbadian children,” stated Toni Thorne, President, Variety – The Children’s Charity of Barbados.
“Together we are making a difference” said Carlos Moore, President, Barbados YMCA. “This donation will support a COVID-19 Food Effort Drive…the current pandemic has put a stop to the majority of our daily transactions and we are now seeking to rebuild these events,” he concluded.
The Geriatric Hospital will be the recipient of new supplies courtesy Scotiabank’s donation to the RCOBW. “The donation being made by Scotiabank has facilitated the purchase of a combination of medical and other items which will be used for the overall care of the elderly… This group of citizens is considered to be extremely vulnerable to the impact of Covid-19… we thank the Bank for its support and partnership,” indicated Trevor Williams, President, RCOBW.
