COVID-19 / SCHOOL PROJECTS

Due to the Covid-19 impact, the delivery of education in Barbados has had to be changed. RCOBW responded positively to the appeal from the Ministry of Education for computer devices and supplied eighty (80) tablets to children at two primary schools. Five laptops were also donated to staff and students.

RCOBW has committed to the upgrade of two (2) schools. These projects include:

  • The painting of classrooms at the Alexandra Secondary School and the Eagle Hall Primary School.
  • Assisting the Alexandra Secondary School with funding for the upgrade of the teaching facilities. In particular, the replacement of the black boards used in the classrooms because of issues related to the adverse effects of the chalk dust to both students and teachers. Pending a full costing and the availability of resources, the blackboards will be replaced with white boards.

The remedial reading program at the Good Shepherd Primary School will be continued. RCOBW also supports the Breakfast Feeding Program at this school. This is a daily meals program where RCOBW arranges for forty-five (45) breakfast meals to be prepared, delivered and served.  The budget for this service is approximately $9,500.00.

Cash donations totaling $35,000 were made to The Salvation Army, The Red Cross Society and The Barbados Vulnerable Family Survival Program to assist with food pantries and families whose income was obliterated due to COVID-19 job loss. Support for the vulnerable and needy persons in our community will be maintained in fiscal year 2020/21.
